6/7/10   Twinkle, Children's new mascot, debuts at Start! Heart Walk
Twinkle, Children’s new mascot, debuted at the American Heart Association’s Start! Heart Walk at Target Field this weekend. Twinkle participated in the Mascot Races at the event, competing against 19 other mascots, including T.C. Bear, Buzz (of the Minnesota Swarm), Hearty of the American Heart Association and Viktor of the Vikings.

6/4/10   Children’s doctor and nurse named Health Care Heroes
Ronald E. Hoekstra, MD, medical director of the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit Follow-Up Clinic, and Sara Froyen Gernbacher, RN, nurse case manager, Hematology/Oncology Clinic, were recently honored as Health Care Heroes in Twin City Business.

6/3/10   Children's Hospitals and Clinics of Minnesota Again Ranked Among Nation's Best by U.S. News & World Report
For the fourth consecutive year, Children’s Hospitals and Clinics of Minnesota is ranked among the top pediatric hospitals in the nation, according to U.S. News & World Report's annual America's Best Children's Hospitals survey.

5/6/10   Hundreds attend NICU Reunions and March for Babies Walks
In April, Children’s Hospitals and Clinics of Minnesota hosted NICU Reunions and March for Babies Walks for both the Minneapolis and St. Paul hospitals.

4/28/10   Children's opens new Cardiovascular Care Center in Minneapolis
Children’s Hospitals and Clinics of Minnesota hosted a grand opening for its new Cardiovascular Care Center on the Minneapolis campus earlier this month. More than 300 people attended the grand opening, which gave community leaders, donors and former patients and their families a chance to see the new facilities and meet the doctors and nurses who will work at the center.

4/2/10   Kids' Health Blog: Being a grandpa cool enough to blog
Phillip M. Kibort, MD, MBA, vice president of medical affairs/chief medical officer at Children’s Hospitals and Clinics of Minnesota, writes: "When I was asked to be part of the Children’s blog, I got very excited thinking, wow, I’m now one of those up-to-date type of managers. Even as a grandfather, I could be cool because I have a blog. The fact that I even understand some of the manifestations of social media is a little bit mind-blowing (an old term by the way)."

3/25/10   Children's announces Bjorn Gunnerud as new Senior Director of Marketing and Brand Communications
Children's Hospitals and Clinics of Minnesota today announced the hiring of Bjorn Gunnerud to serve as Senior Director of Marketing and Brand Communications effective April 12, 2010. Gunnerud joins Children's with more than 15 years of marketing experience with a diverse mix of premiere national and global brands.

3/25/10   Kids' Health Blog: Meet our director of health care equity and cultural competence
Boris Kalanj writes: "Did you know that more than 50% of patients who seek care at Children’s are nonwhite; 20% speak a language other than English in the home; and greater than 40% are from low-income families, insured through Medicaid?"

3/23/10   Kids' Health Blog: Meet our director of child health policy and advocacy
Scott Leitz write: "As an unapologetic policy wonk and lover of health policy, I am honored and pleased to be blogging here. I joined Children’s in December 2009 as our director of child health policy and advocacy. Prior to joining Children’s, I spent over 15 years working on state health policy issues, most recently as Assistant Commissioner of Health in Minnesota, with responsibility for health reform."

3/8/10   Kids in Haiti use Children’s comfort kits
Earlier this year, Children’s Hospitals and Clinics of Minnesota sent 1,000 comfort kits to kids in Haiti in the aftermath of the Jan. 12 earthquake there.

2/26/10   "The Happiest Baby on the Block" Parent Education Classes
The classes are based on "The Happiest Baby on the Block,” a calming strategy for infants developed by renowned pediatrician, Dr. Harvey Karp. The class is intended for expectant parents, and new parents of infants four months of age or younger.

2/23/10   Talk to Children’s on our new Kids’ Health blog
We’ve introduced a new feature on the site that gives you a way to read about what’s going on at Children’s and suggest topics for our doctors and leaders. The new Kids’ Health blog will provide a unique way to learn more about Children’s and interact with our regular contributors.

2/22/10   Come to the Children's - St. Paul NICU Reunion April 25
Can you believe it? Sunday, April 25, 2010, will be our 26th Annual Children’s - St. Paul NICU Reunion for former NICU patients and their families (Children’s - Minneapolis NICU Reunion will also be held April 25 and details are forthcoming).

2/19/10   Heart of a Champion: Patient becomes national champion months after surgery
Tori Paone was born to dance. Even when Children's doctors diagnosed Tori with a rare form of congenital heart disease and underwent open-heart surgery, she pushed through -- competing just five weeks later, and winning a national championship just five months later. Four years later, Tori continues to dance, and celebrate her new beginning.

2/8/10   See our new private patient room at Wild and Swarm games
Children's model private patient room continues its road trip at Wild and Swarm home games this week. See the room for yourself and learn more about how we were able incorporate feedback from our Youth Advisory Council to create a room with a focus on the patient, the family and the doctor. Each room includes an XBox 360, flat-screen TV, on-demand movies, a sleeper couch, WiFi access and more.

2/4/10   Dassel Cokato Middle School wins flu prevention video contest
The Kohl’s and Children’s Influenza Prevention Project for Kids congratulates Dassel Cokato Middle School for winning first place in the Influenza Prevention Public Service Announcement Competition. Nearly 50 videos were entered in the contest.

A work of art by local artist Judy Freeman was presented to Arnold S. Anderson, MD, by the Board of Greater Minneapolis Crisis nursery in recognition of his lifetime commitment to the welfare of children in our community.

1/25/10   Children’s publishes 2009 Research Report
Children’s has published the 2009 Research Report, which showcases a representation of the research being conducted at Children’s.

1/19/10   Children’s physician volunteers in Haiti relief efforts
Dr. Jen Halverson arrived in Haiti on Sunday to be part of the relief work effort in the aftermath of last week’s earthquake. Halverson, who works in Children’s emergency department, will help patients at a newly established relief clinic.

1/15/10   Children’s shares new private patient room prototype at Best Buy corporate campus
Children’s Hospitals and Clinics of Minnesota set up its private patient room prototype in the middle of Best Buy corporate headquarters this week to show the company’s employees some of the results of our ongoing partnership.

1/14/10   Release of State of Minnesota’s Adverse Health Events Report
The Minnesota Department of Health released a report today that lists certain medical accidents and failures at state hospitals, as well what hospitals are doing to become safer every day.

1/12/10   Solving computer problems for hospital patients and their families
For the past two months, Richfield-based Best Buy Co., which owns Geek Squad, has been running a pilot project at the hospital to test if it's helpful have tech support staff available to donate computer help and supplies to patients and their families.

1/8/10   Children’s calls on local artists for new initiative
Children’s Hospitals and Clinics of Minnesota is looking for local artists to help with its new Arts and Healing initiative. Arts and Healing will feature partnerships with local arts organizations and will work to foster a healing environment for patients and families at Children’s.

Kohl’s Cares for Kids and Children’s Hospitals and Clinics of Minnesota are looking for high school and middle school students who can help spread the word about how not to spread the flu.

11/17/09   Geek Squad opens first ever in-hospital precinct
Children’s Hospitals and Clinics of Minnesota teamed up with Best Buy to open the first in-hospital Geek Squad precinct in the country. The precinct opened Nov. 16 with a ribbon-cutting ceremony outside the precinct.

11/4/09   Most awesomest Fill A Room With Care deliveries
On Nov. 3, The Dude, who is star of Children’s in-house TV show “Kids Clubhouse,” rounded at the Children’s Specialty Care Center and hospital in Minneapolis to hand deliver get-well stars created by well wishers during the Fill A Room With Care fundraising kick-off event all Mall of America.

10/28/09   New emergency department now open at Children’s - Minneapolis
The new Emergency Department entrance is at the intersection of East 25th Street and Elliot Avenue, one block east of Chicago Avenue.

10/28/09   Children’s - Minneapolis hospital front entrance closed
Enter the hospital through first floor of Children’s Specialty Center, located across from the hospital on Chicago Avenue. Take the elevator to the second floor and take the skyway to the hospital.

10/13/09   Children’s TV show has a new name: “Kids Clubhouse”
The curtain lifted today on a new era of in-house television programming at Children’s of Minnesota.

9/25/09   Children’s Hospitals and Clinics of Minnesota Launches Fundraising Initiative, Fill a Room with Care
The expansion project is part of a $300 million plan that includes both its St. Paul and Minneapolis campuses, the most significant facilities improvement project since Children’s opened its doors in 1924.

9/22/09   Children's launches H1N1 outreach effort with Minneapolis and St. Paul School Districts
In an effort to help students and teachers stay healthy during this influenza season, Children’s Hospitals and Clinics of Minnesota will distribute 15,000 bottles of hand sanitizer to more than 120 Minneapolis and St. Paul K-12 public schools starting Wednesday, September 23.

8/16/09   Children’s expertise helps 16-year-old beat the odds
In February, after being unconscious for more than six weeks, 16-year-old Alan Moos woke up in a hospital bed at Children’s – Minneapolis. "The first thing I remember saying was, 'What am I doing here?'" Alan recalled. Little did Alan know the more appropriate question might have been "How fortunate am I to be here?"
