At Children’s, we are committed to providing you and your family with a welcoming and diverse environment where everyone matters. Children’s has a Welcoming Environment Committee devoted to just that. The committee represents patients and families, visitors, employees, and interest groups, and works in partnership with Children’s leadership.

Children’s Service Standards

The Welcoming Environment at Children’s is largely based on Children’s Service Standards, which are standards of behavior developed by employees. They form the foundation for providing the best care to your family, and include:

Excellence

Respect and Dignity

Communication

Cooperation and Fairness

Personal Accountability and Fairness

Resources and fun opportunities for children and families

The Sibling Play Area
A unique service Children’s offers, that not many pediatric hospitals offer. Brothers, sisters, cousins, or other kids who get tired of visiting can be signed into Sibling Play. It's a great place for kids to play and run off energy during their visits, yet not feel left out of what's going on in your family.

Can-Can Café the show
Children’s live in-house television show is a place “where everyone can.” The show is broadcast live on Tuesdays and Thursdays from the Sibling Play Area at Children’s – Minneapolis, and it is interactive. Children can tune in from their room and call the show to participate and win prizes.

The Family Resource Center
Staffed with supportive, caring professionals who assist families with services such as: consumer and safety information, parenting information and resources, access to computers, pager and digital camera checkout, and more.

Child Life
Helping make every child’s health care experience a positive one. They work with children and adolescents to minimize the stress children can feel during hospital stays or visits to the clinics, emergency rooms, radiology, or surgery areas.

Interpreter Services
Available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week for patients at Children’s.

Fun activities with volunteers from around the community
There are several fun activities children can take part in with volunteers from the community. Some of the fun includes playing Bingo with MN Wild Hockey players and their families, and coming to the visits from the Minnesota Zoo, and more.

The DAISY Award For Nurses Exemplifying Compassionate Care
