Cross Cultural Care in the Clinical Setting

See our series of online videos exploring the health care beliefs, practices, and behaviors that patients from the Hmong/Asian, Somali, and Hispanic/Latino traditions bring to the health care setting. The 60-minute videos were made at seminars held by Children's of Minnesota in 2005.

Each video addresses the following:

common ailments and traditional treatment approaches.
how to balance or share use of traditional and Western treatment approaches.
fears of culturally diverse patients in sharing their use of traditional cultural medicine with their Western providers.
two key questions care providers can use to solicit traditional cultural treatment approaches and ease fears.

The Cross Cultural Care and Interpreter Services program developed the presentation. For more information about the videos or cultural issues in the medical setting, contact Elsa Batica at elsa.batica@childrensmn.org.
