Peaceful Parenting

For Health Professionals

Peaceful Parenting/Positive Discipline

Welcome to the Peaceful Parenting/Positive Discipline section for health care professionals. Children’s of Minnesota is committed to assisting clinicians as they support parents in their efforts to nurture, guide, and discipline their children in effective and non-violent ways. Parents can visit our Positive Parenting for Families section of the site for additional helpful information written for parents.

Corporal Punishment Research Review

The research on the subject of childhood discipline is constantly evolving and difficult to keep abreast of in a busy clinical environment. This publication is intended to assist clinicians in understanding the most recent literature on the consequences and impact of corporal punishment and to serve as a useful tool in approaching the subject of discipline in the office setting.

Online Peaceful Parenting Video

Our online video is an 11-minute introduction to the data supporting peaceful parenting concepts as well as to the recommended approach to childhood discipline recommended by the American Academy of Pediatrics in its Guidance for Effective Discipline (Pediatrics Vol. 101, No. 4, April 1998).

Positive Discipline Guide

We have created an easy-to-read booklet for parents on nurturing guidance and positive disciplinary styles, Positive Discipline: A Guide for Parents. It can be distributed by clinicians to parents and families as part of routine well child care. This is one of our Web site's most popular destinations!

Positive Discipline also is now available online in Hmong, Somali, and Spanish languages.
(Hmong) Txoj Kev Pab Rau Cov Niam Txiv Cob Qhia Kom Me Nyuam Coj Zoo
(Somali) Tarbiyeynta Wanaagsan: Hagaha Waalidka
