Logistics

Test Indications:

If urine is analyzed and shows evidence of a metabolic abnormality, it is recommended a serum sample be collected and tested at an additional fee (same charge as the urine). This will be discussed with the lab and ordering provider. This situation is rare.

Special Instructions:

Please note if the patient is currently on Urso or Actigall and if the patient has been ill within the past month with specific dates if possible. It is recommended that patients be off these two drugs for at least 5 days before specimen collection. Also provide a brief clinical history and preliminary diagnosis. 1.5 – 6 mL blood

Blood: 1 – 2 mL serum

Routine urine or bile collection

Special Processing:

Lab Staff: Freeze random urine or bile specimen.
Blood specimens: Centrifuge and aliquot 1-2 mL into a scew-top plastic container and freeze.

Ship frozen, Monday – Thursday, only. Send overnight express. There is no weekend delivery. Hold specimens collected on the weekend for Monday.
