Collection:

Draw blood into blood gas syringe. Avoid use of a tourniquet. Immediately remove all air from syringe, remove needle, cap tightly, and mix. Forward immediately at ambient temperature.

Special Processing:

Lab Staff: Deliver the specimen to the blood gas testing station. Testing must be completed within 30 minutes of collection.

The patient should be in a relaxed and steady state.

Mislabeled or unlabeled specimens; non-heparinized samples; collection times exceeding 30 minutes and clotted samples; specimens containing air
