Human Herpes Virus 7 PCR, HHV-7
CPT Codes:
87799 – Infectious agent detection by nucleic acid, not otherwise specified, quantification, each organism
Test Includes:
HHV7 detection by PCR reported in copies/mL and log10.
Logistics
Test Indications:
Useful as an adjunct in the rapid diagnosis of HHV-7 infection. HHV-7 is closely related to HHV-6 and CMV, and can cause reactivation disease in transplant patients or other immune-compromised individuals.

Specimen Rejection:
Warm specimens, mislabeled or unlabeled specimens

Interpretive
Reference Range:
<500 copies/mL or <2.7 log10
Limitations:
The sensitivity of the assay is very dependent upon the quality of the specimen submitted. Results less than 500 copies/mL does not indicate that the patient is not infected with HHV7.
The results obtained should be used in conjunction with clinical findings to make accurate diagnosis.
The quantitative range of this assay is 500 HHV-7 DNA copies/mL (2.7 log10) to 10,000,000 copies/mL (7.0 log10).
