Special Processing:

Lab Staff: Do Not centrifuge. Forward specimen to Send Outs. Store and ship at room temperature, avoid freezing. Ship on the same day of collection to arrive at reference lab 7 days a week. Each specimen should be labeled with two forms of patient identification. These forms of identification must also appear on the requisition form.

Improper storage; mislabeled or unlabeled specimen; wrong container (anticoagulant or solution); improper blood/anticoagulant ratio; delay in transport; inappropriate timing of collection; interfering substances; dietary limitations; container leakage resulting in compromised specimen
