Lab Staff: Centrifuge specimen, remove serum aliquot into screw-capped round bottom plastic vial. Store and ship at frozen temperatures. Forward promptly.

Specimens other than serum; lipemic specimens; gross hemolysis; warm specimens; mislabeled or unlabeled specimens

Note: Heparinized specimens will not be tested.

Limitations:

Passively acquired anti-HBs (i.e., transfusion, recent immune globulin treatment) does not signify immunity. Anti-HBs may fall below detectable levels over time. Not useful for the demonstration of acute HBV infection. Performance characteristics have not been established for the following specimen characteristics: grossly icteric, lipemia, hemolysis, containing particulate matter or cadaveric specimens.

Methodology:

Chemiluminescence Immunoassay

This assay produces both qualitative and quantitative results.
