Lab Staff: Centrifuge blood specimen, remove serum aliquot and freeze in a screw capped round bottom plastic vial. Freeze processed serum and CSF specimens in separate plastic vials. Label appropriately with specimen type. Ship frozen. Forward promptly.

Specimens other than spinal fluid and serum; more than 7 days between CSF and serum collection times; CSF or serum collected alone; mislabeled or unlabeled specimens

Interpretive
|
Reference Range:
|
<4 bands
A finding of 4 or more CSF-specific bands is consistent with multiple sclerosis. The presence of oligoclonal bands is unrelated to disease activity.
