Platelets (Leukocyte Reduced), Plasma, or Cryoprecipitate
Platelets: May be required for surgery for the following:
- Patients with a known or pending qualitative platelet defect (CV bypass, von Willebrand’s, medication induced)
- Anticipated massive blood loss (>50% EBV)
- Pre-operative platelet count <50,000 (<100,00 for patients <5 Kg).
Plasma: May be required for surgery for the following:
- CV bypass at risk for coagulopathy or bleeding
- Anticipated massive blood loss (>50% EBV)
- Documented coagulopathy with PTT >51 seconds (> 70 seconds in preterm infants <30 days old), and/or an INR >1.4
Cryoprecipitate: May be required for CV bypass surgery, massive volume loss (>50% EBV), or fibrinogen <150 mg/dL
