Madelyn's Story

Madelyn is the inspiration behind HeartBeat 5000 - The Race for Children's Health. At twenty-three weeks of gestation it was discovered that Madelyn had a complete heart block. She was born premature, weighing 3 pounds 13 ounces. Shortly after her birth she received a lifesaving pacemaker at Children's Hospitals and Clinics of Minnesota to help her heart to beat at a normal rate.

Today, Madelyn is a vibrant and active little girl, who enjoys swimming, dancing, and playing with her older siblings.

HeartBeat 5000 is a tribute to Madelyn, and other children like her, for their spirit in the face of heart defects that challenge their health and well-being. This event celebrates the work of Children's physicians, nurses, staff, and volunteers. It also recognizes the quality of life provided by innovation and technology.
