Cancer Kids Fund
Support Us!
The Cancer Kids Fund at Children’s of Minnesota provides support, care, and comfort to kids and families coping with cancer or blood disorders. The Fund supports over 80 programs that provide entertainment, education, and day-to-day support to families who have become part of the hematology / oncology program.
In 1987, Dr. Larry Singher, medical director of the Children’s pediatric hematology/oncology program, and his close friend Danny Berenberg, founded the Cancer Kids Fund. The men’s vision was for a fund that would be committed to providing loving, caring, physical, and emotional support to children with cancer or blood disorders cared for at Children's of Minnesota. Unfortunately, in that same year, Dr. Singher was diagnosed with cancer. He passed away in May 1990.
Our Core Values
We believe the child’s needs are the nucleus of our funding support. Cancer Kids Fund programs:
- Focus on the entire family so that the child and family can overcome a life-threatening disease together.
- Are immediate and responsive and, if need be, personalized to meet the needs of each child and family.
- Are integrated into the overall care of a patient.
- Will help cancer and blood disorder survivors with new life changes.
- Are available to children and families whether in the hospital or at home, through acute and maintenance care and, if need be, through the death and bereavement process.
Our Programs
The Cancer Kids Fund provides programs which support and care for children and families facing cancer and blood disorders. We evaluate our programming annually to make sure that our programs meet our mission and key values, are relevant to those we serve, and are carried out as effectively as possible.
