Advisory Board Minutes from July 6, 2004
Present: Jane Braun, Anne Cherek, Judy Guinn, Mark Parr, Darcy Komejan, Patty Miller, Gene Klein, Jerri Sites
Time of Next Call: Tuesday, August 3, 2004, 11:00am – 12:00pm CST
Agenda:
- Jane reported that the MRCAC summer newsletter will be posted online, on the MRCAC website by the end of the week.
- Jane also reported that the MRCAC audit continues and that none of the regional offices have received their 2004 monies to date. Jane said that all regionals are hopeful to receive their money by September. Jane indicated that the money issue has not affected trainings that are already in place and confirmed.
- Jane expressed a concern, resulting from feedback from attendees to Medical Training Academy, that there is a shortfall of good medical training on abuse issues for professionals practicing in CAC’s. Due to this concern, MRCAC is anticipating to hold 6 sessions of MTA, more of which will be held on the road to help reach more people. There will an MTA on the road session held December 8-10th, in Michigan. Phyllis Van Order is organizing this session and is the point of contact for all questions or concerns. The Michigan session is not exclusive to those in Michigan allowing anyone to attend. MRCAC is also planning an MTA session in Salt Lake City, UT later in the year. Details about either of these sessions will be posted on both the MRCAC website and the NCA website. Tuition for MTA is $550 for those interested in attending.
- Fall conference brochures will be sent out by early next week, July 12-16.
State Updates:
Wisconsin: Judy reported that they are currently organizing a state summit conference to be held December 2, 2004 in Wisconsin Dells. They held a “mini-summit” earlier in the year and it was a great success and they expect this larger summit to have similar outcomes. It is a one-day training with plenary and problem-solving sessions held in the morning, and breakout sessions held in the afternoon. All CAC’s in the state as well as counties that have a working MDT will be those in attendance.
Judy also said that at their last state chapter meeting in June, they discussed data collection project gathering information from statewide CAC’s addressing types of patients they see, etc. They would like to use the information they gather for outcome measurement purposes to add to one that was previously done. Jane Braun asked for a copy of both, once the current one is complete. The project is being lead by Safe Harbor in Madison.
Illinois: Mark reported that they just began a second week of the “Finding Words” program, with a third session taking place the week of July 19-23 in Springfield, being coordinated by Marcia Rudin. Both Missouri and Michigan commented that their sessions of this program were very successful as well.
Michigan: Darcy said they are planning a conference for August 9-10, 2004, to be held in Mt. Pleasant for Michigan CAC’s. The conference will focus on discipline-specific trainings and cultural diversity. She said they expect about 100 people to attend. Darcy also reported that VOCA is covering $8,000 in conference expenses, freeing up funds to establish a state chapter office and website. Darcy said they may have to do a ‘cash match’ to VOCA and have thus asked all associate and full member Michigan CAC’s to donate $100 to help meet this goal.
Minnesota: Patty is busy organizing the state chapter conference scheduled for August 24th. At the conference members will plan their annual state retreat that will take place sometime in November or December.
Nebraska: Gene said they had just finished a major legislative session that was very rewarding. Each CAC (total of 6) will be receiving $50,000, beginning July 15th, to hire MDT coordinators to manage MDT’s. This position will be responsible for creating protocols, critical case reviews and will have access to all records in order to create a case tracking system. They are very excited about this opportunity.
Missouri: Jerri reported that they are in the process of hiring a new Executive Director, and once that position is filled, they will also be hiring for a training coordinator position as well as a development coordinator. They are excited about the prospectives.
Respectively submitted,
Anne Cherek
