Advisory Board Call
September 6, 2005
Present: Carolyn Green, Ben Murray, Darcy Komejan-Babcock, Paula Condol, Jan Lutz, Gene Klein, Patty Miller, Barb Small, Brenda Nelson, Jane Braun, Kim Martinez, Anne Cherek

Agenda:
- Jane stated that there is still no official award announcement as of date regarding the RCAC grant awards. She will keep everyone posted.
- Jane announced that in addition to Kathy Leggit (At Large nominee) and Sandra Hewitt (Mental Health nominee) for NCA Board candidates, Ben Murray nominated Joan Coleman from the CAC in Toledo, OH to fill the Victim Advocate seat on the board. Joan has many years in the victim advocate role with a County Prosecutor’s office since 1990. She has taught in local colleges, consulted in urban/minority communities and provided diversity training. Jane asked Ben tosend a biography of Joan and letters of recommendation to Anne Cherek so that she may send out all candidate nominee information to the Advisory Board by the end of September. The chapters were then instructed to send it out to their state’s CAC’s and encourage them to vote.
- Jane announced that she will be out of the office from Sept 12-Sept 26th for travel and site visits.
- Kim reported she had completed all update calls to the region’s CAC’s.
State Updates:
Indiana: Jan reported that the state chapter continues to work on NCA grants. Indiana is also working with the IN State Prosecutor’s office to co-host a statewide CAC open house, sometime after January 1, 2006.
Iowa: Barb reported that Iowa is also working on NCA grants. They are also continuing work on a state wide CAC informational video. Barb also reported that Kathy Leggit is helping to get members of congress out to visit the CAC’s in Iowa.
Michigan: Darcy reported that MI had just completed a state wide MDT training that trained approximately 150-175 attendees. At the conference, a Director’s forum was held because of some new members and new directors within the state. It was decided that a Director’s training would be held sometime in October or November with Cathy Crabtree facilitating.
Minnesota: Patty reported no new updates.
Missouri: Carolyn reported that a development position they received funding for was filled as well as a training coordinator position. Both employees are doing well. Carolyn also reported that Mike Johnson and Jamie Caperton are coming to MO to co-facilitate some training with Board members and CAC directors. This training will be funded through the MO Dept. of Health and Human Services.
North Dakota: Paula reported that their state chapter continues to learn and utilize NCAtrak as their new database. The ND chapter is also planning a MDT conference to be held in January 2006, and their next board meeting is scheduled for September 13, 2005.
Nebraska: Gene reported the NE successfully held their first state conference last week, co-sponsored by Prevent Child Abuse Nebraska. There were approximately 480 attendees. Gene also stated that the chapter continues to purse their goal of having 6 of the 7 CAC’s in the state to be accredited by the end of the year.
Ohio: Ben reported a training to be held for people who have complete forensic interview training. Dr. Anne Walker will be facilitating this training. Additionally, in the early part of November, Olga Truijilo will be facilitating the annual membership meeting.
Wisconsin: Brenda reported that the chapter held a strategic planning meeting at the end of August, facilitated by Betsy Goulet. It went very well. WI is also officially welcoming a new CAC in LaCrosse, September 19-20, 2005, as well as new developing centers in Marshfield, Waukesha and Eau Claire. Additionally, Brenda reported that they are trying to retain VOCA grant monies that were cut in recent state budget cuts, but initiating a formal appeal.
