Advisory Board Meeting Minutes

February 7, 2006

Present: Jane Braun, Anne Cherek, Kim Martinez, Anita O’Connor, Sue Tesdahl, Monica Maurer, Ben Murray, Kathy Beasley, Mark Zimmerer, Kathleen Inwood, Paula Condol, Jan Lutz.

Agenda:

- Jane and Anne discussed the upcoming Chapter Summit in Omaha, NE, March 20-22, 2006. Details are as follows:

The date: March 20-22, 2006 (with arrival being the 19th). Days will

start at 8:30am and end around 4pm. Wednesday(the 22nd) will end at

11am.

1. If you haven't already done so, please email the name(s) of the

representatives from your state that will be in attendance. MRCAC will

pay for one representative to attend. Any additional person is to be

paid for at the Chapter's expense. Please indicate if you/additional

person, will be driving or flying.

- 1a. If you are 400 miles and under, it is assumed that you

will be driving to Omaha (unless other circumstances are discussed

with MRCAC ahead of time). You will be reimbursed for gas/mileage. There is

a parking garage at the hotel you may park in for $6/day which will also

be reimbursed to you.

- 1b. If you are over 400 miles and will be flying, I will be

making your plane reservations. Please let me know if you have any

seat preference. It won't be guaranteed, but I will do my best. There is an

airport shuttle to the hotel, free of charge. The shuttle pick-up is

located just outside the baggage claim. There is a courtesy phone

located next to baggage claim to call. Flights need to be booked by

themiddle of February.

2. Please email (preferable) or fax me: 1) your chapter by-laws 2)

products your chapter has established (i.e. meth protocol, PR media,

etc) 3) legislative initiatives 4) the names of trainers and the topic

of what they train on, who you would recommend to others. Please get

this information to me by the end of this week, or NO LATER than

February 14th. (We understand that you all may not have all 4 items

listed (i.e. initiatives, products), so please just send the ones that

your chapter does have). These are all at the request of NCA.

3. Please email me any food/beverage preferences and/or allergies.

4. The hotel rooms are booked at the DoubleTree Hotel and Executive

Meeting Center-Omaha Downtown. The phone number is 402.346.7600

Check in is 3pm. Check out is 1pm. As I understand it now, we are

sending a rooming list to the hotel. So, when you check in you will

check in under your name.

5. Breakfasts and lunches will be provided (breakfast only on the

22nd). You will be on your own for dinners.

6. We will be meeting at Project Harmony on Monday 3-20-06 and Tuesday

3-21-06. We will be meeting at the hotel on Wednesday 3-22-06. (We are

still working out the transportation issue to and from Project Harmony

on Monday and Tuesday. I will let you know what the plan is, as soon

as

we have something confirmed).

7. We will be working hard but having fun too so come relaxed, and

dress comfortably!

- Kim stated that she has finished her annual update calls to the CAC’s in our region and everyone is doing well.

State Updates:

WI: Anita asked everyone about legislation regarding juveniles suspected of a crime and their interview being videotaped and what their experience has been. No one had any direct experience with that but Paula said APRI predicts that this will be the case for most CAC’s/Teams in the near future.

IA: Sue reported that the next Ch meeting is next week, re: videoconferencing in the hopes of having more frequent meetings. The chapter would like to develop a chapter consensus on protocol re: intake/referral protocol. This meeting will discuss a contract to hire a new chapter clerical assistant. The chapter is also planning a 2 -day retreat in June.

IL: Kathy reported that IL is attempting to amend the State Health Insurance ACT for state employees to include CAC staff. The chapter is also working on a compliance document that has a position for centers that are trying to move up in membership and what obstacles they encounter and what to do. The chapter is also working on a manual that all centers in the state can use as a training resource. They have a new directors training coming up this summer and fall.

SD: Monica reported that the medical director from Child’s Voice is testifying to the legislature to lengthen the Child Safety Act. Their next state chapter meeting is at the end of this week.

OH: Ben reported that their Board of Director’s is hosting a retreat with CAC directors this summer. Ohio is also utilizing videoconferencing to hold Board meetings when there is inclement weather. They are also working on their own data tracking system.

NE: Mark reported the next chapter meeting is in a few weeks. They recently held a retreat facilitated by Ben Murray where they discussed and developed by-laws. They have a bill in to define a CAC and MDT and how to utilize them, since they are receiving funding. The chapter is also looking to hire a part-time and hopefully move to full- time, chapter coordinator.

KS: Kathleen reported the executive committee met last week and began a mentoring program for directors and staff of CAC’s. They are also working with legislatures to get funding. A meeting is set with a Senator to get a CAC started in Wichita. A new CAC is about to open in

ND: Paula reported they had a conference of 300 people facilitated by APRI. The chapter has met with the University and will be creating an on-line newsletter for the chapter. The University is also working on a PR CD to send out across the state. A new CAC is being set up in Minot, ND.

IN: Jan reported that DCS and the state chapter is working together to keep CAC coverage remains adequate across the state.
