Advisory Board Meeting Minutes

September 5, 2006

Present: Brenda Nelson, Jan Lutz, Kathleen Inwood, Jay Wood, Monica Maurer, Tom Frost, Paula Condol, Kim Martinez, Jane Braun, Anne Cherek, Ben Murray

Date of Next Call: October 17th, 2006 11am CST

Agenda:

- NCA Board nominations for medical provider seat

Jane stated that nominations must be complete by mid-September. Previously, Dr. Rich Kaplan from MCRC was nominated, but because he’s an employee of a Regional CAC, he cannot be nominated. As a result, we asked the Board to nominate others, and Dr. Barbara Fox, out of WI and Dr. Kay Rauth-Farley, out of KS, have been nominated.

Jane asked the Board to vote for a candidate. Jane asked Brenda and Kathleen to write up a nomination description for each candidate and these will be sent out for everyone to vote on. A decision should be made by the end of this week.

- Grant applications

Deadline is September 15th, for the competitive CAC/Chapter grant for funds to be used by February 1, 2007.

- SRCAC Online Library

Jane reported that it should be up and running within the next few months. Each member will get a username and password in order to access the library in a more in-depth manner.

Jane also stated that MRCAC subscribed to a Foundation.

State Updates:

Indiana: Jan reported that they have their next chapter meeting this month, and will be nominating chapter officers.

Kansas
: Kathleen reported that Jane Braun visited at their state chapter meeting at the end of August. She also reported that they are trying to hire a Chapter Coordinator. Wichita has developed a task force to develop a CAC there and a news article was written about this.

: Tom reported that he started half time in August, and will be starting full time next week at CornerHouse. He will be organizing the next Chapter meeting for September. He welcomes any comments or tips.

Missouri
: Jay reported September will be spent revising grants. Jay also stated that a large percentage of the states’ CACs are changing board structure to create more community support and fundraising opportunities. Jay also reported that they have Child Advocacy Training coming up where forensic interviewers train with prosecutors in a 4-day intensive training. MO continues to train Finding Words. Jay also reported that the state received funding for a research project on child sexual abuse prevention.

North Dakota
: Paula reported the chapter is meeting in a week to discuss legislative options as their legislature meets this year. Fargo is up for Associated membership and the task force in Fargo is up and running and seems to be going well. Paula also reported that she participated in a “Military Think Tank” in Colorado Springs. She said it went well and we can look forward to a product coming out in the near future.

Several other newer programs are also growing.

South Dakota
: Monica reported that the chapter has been meeting by phone every few months and have drafted a brochure. The next chapter meeting is next month.

Wisconsin
: Brenda reported there are current elections going on for AG and county seats. Brenda said that the in-coming candidate for the AG seat would be equally as good as the incumbent as both candidates support CACs which is important for state VOCA funding that the CACs receive. The next chapter meeting is next month in Waukesha. A few centers are needing to move forward and will submit non-member program development applications to NCA. The chapter is also working on a chapter logo and brochure.
