NCA Grants: Jane asked everyone how many of them who applied for grants. The region as a whole had 77 applications: 1 research proposal, 1 tribal, 1 program expansion, 11 non-member/development grant, 12 prevention apps, 15 Associate member apps, 7 chapter, 3 develop a standard, 23 training and TA. No tribal applications were accepted. Funds are being awarded amongst 9 of the 11 non-member/development applications were selected to receive funds. Alternate applications were also being considered and there is no word yet on who may be awarded. Funds are being awarded amongst 5/15 (with 3 alternates) Associate member grant applicants; it was very competitive. 12/23 training grants were fully funded, 1 grant was partially funded and 4 alternates were also chosen. No other info is provided at this time.
NCA BOD Elections: Jane reported that the Midwest region now holds four seats on the NCA Board of Directors; They are: Kay Farley of Kansas (Medical), Victor Vieth of Minnesota (At Large), Sandra Hewitt of Minnesota (Mental Health) and Mat Heck of Ohio (Prosecution). Jane thanked everyone for their help in encouraging people in the chapters to vote.
Chapter Grants: Kim reminded everyone who hasn’t already, to turn in their non- competitive Chapter grant applications. The deadline is December 31st.
State Updates:
South Dakota: Monica reported that they had a meeting last month, and their new brochure is going out state-wide.
Indiana: Jan reported that they are having a state-wide training on Cultural Diversity on December 7th.
Minnesota: Tom reported that the next state chapter meeting in December 8th. Legislative initiatives will be the focus.
Wisconsin: Brenda reported that Laura Rogers is facilitating a statewide 2 -day training this week. Nancy Chandler will be the keynote speaker at an MDT training later this week as well.
Kansas: Kathleen reported that the chapter continues to work on state funding, and finding a chapter coordinator.
Nebraska: Mark reported that the state just confirmed funds to hire a chapter coordinator. Chapter retreat will be held next week.
North Dakota: Paula reported that the chapter is focusing on legislation sessions for possible funds from two state budgets.
Ohio: Ben reported that they had a director’s meeting last Friday.
Missouri: Jay reported that the chapter is gearing up for legislative session.
The chapter is also producing PSA’s that will run state-wide for four months, via radio and tv, funded by a CDC grant. The chapter is also working on a website.
