Advisory Board Meeting Minutes

February 6, 2007

Present: Jane Braun, Anne Cherek, Kim Martinez, Amy Boydston, Jan Lutz, Ben Murray, Monica Maurer, Tom Frost, Jerre Cory

Date of Next Call: Tuesday, March 6th at 11am CST

Agenda:

- NCA/RCAC Training Booklets and the “Former Pink Brochure”: Jane reported that both of these new collaborative publications have been developing over the last year and are now ready to be distributed to the chapters and others by request. We have 1000 copies of each, and Jane asked the Board to email Anne and indicate how many of each publication their respective chapter wants.

- Victor Veith: Jane reported that she is currently working with Victor on a “think tank” basis, to develop a curriculum for law school students who want to work in criminal and civil cases with children. If the proposal is accepted, the first year of implementation would be 2008, at Hamline Law School in St. Paul, MN.

- Funding Directory: the new funding resource directory is up on the MRCAC website. It is listed under “Funding Resources” by clicking on “Funding Report”.

- Atlas Survey: Kim discussed that she will be conducting a new survey for an online atlas. A questionnaire will be emailed out to CAC directors and are asked to mail it back. A master copy will then be created and posted on our website for easy access. The Southern Regional has a similar template on their website www.srcac.org, and Jane encouraged the chapters to take a look and provide feedback to enhance the one we will produce.

- Jane’s travels: Jane went to the San Diego conference in January, and while overall it was good, it appeared to be lower in attendance than previous years. Jane will be going to WI and IN for chapter visits this spring. Jane also reminded everyone that Accreditation Bootcamp, for sites up for re-evaluation, will be held July 17-18, in Chicago, IL.

State Updates:

KS: Amy reported that she began working as the first KS State Chapter Coordinator last Thursday, February 1. She said the chapter is currently working on obtaining a Federal Tax ID number and that the Governor has set aside 1 million dollars specifically for CACs, and is currently working on a funding formula.

IN: Jan reported that Jane is coming to visit the chapter in March, for the Chapter Meeting.

MI: Jerre reported that MI is continuing to lobby with the state for funding. Jerre is also going out to meet with some tribal areas as well. The chapter is looking to budget hiring a consultant to come out for the next director retreat. The chapter is also working on a mentoring network for developing centers.

MN: Tom reported that the chapter is currently meeting with various congress members to obtain funding from the state for CAC development.

OH: Ben suggested to everyone to read several articles on child sexual abuse in a judicial periodical. Ben will email Anne the online link and she will send it out to the Board.

SD: Monica reported that a philanthropist gave 4 million to the Sioux Falls health care system for pediatric services. It is unclear what, if any amount, will go to CAC at this time. The chapter is going to attend Finding Words in CT in March, and are also planning a retreat.
