Current and future chapter stipends now will be good until September 30th and beginning October 1, 2008 stipends will be doubled to $10,000. Applications are on the website. Jane emphasized that those states without Chapter coordinators we encourage funds to be targeted towards this goal.
- Chapter Coordinator job descriptions: Kim has been receiving a number or requests for chapter coordinator job descriptions. She asked everyone to send theirs in to her so we have them for future reference.
- Court Preparation Training: Jane reminded everyone that the next session of this training is April 10-12, 2008. People must register as a medical/legal team. The registration form is on the website. Contact Anne Cherek with any questions.
State Updates:
Kansas: Amy reported that the chapter is focused on enhancing and increasing state funding. They will hear later this week about any changes. In May, the chapter will develop a strategic plan as an organization and work on a state growth plan.
Iowa: Stacie reported that the chapter is working on a strategic plan, and in May, Cathy Crabtree will be facilitating chapter accreditation work. A new CAC in northern, rural Iowa (Mason City) is on the brink of being started after prolonged efforts.
Ohio: James reported that they are busy in Ohio continuing on with their usual state trainings. The Board is currently interviewing candidates for the new chapter director position that Ben Murray recently vacated.
Nebraska: Ivy reported that they are wrapping up their annual report and are creating a state chapter website. The chapter is also evaluating what state conferences they want to be involved with this year. Tomorrow, Project Harmony is hosting what will become an annual CAC training/luncheon. They are expecting around 1600 participants all together.
Michigan: Darcy reported that the state is in need of a chapter coordinator, and is focusing on chapter accreditation. Jane will be attending their April chapter meeting.
Indiana: Jan reported that the chapter has added a “developing CAC only” area containing pertinent papers, form, etc, specific to developing CAC needs, on their chapter website. The chapter received funds from the Children’s Justice Fund; they are currently brainstorming on how to spend it. A new mobile model unit is in the process of being put together and would potentially serve 8 rural southern Indiana counties.
South Dakota: Diane reported that the chapter is focusing on cultural issues, resulting from a meeting held this past fall, and how these issues affect tribal centers within their state. The chapter is also working on creating protocol with DCI statewide. State funding is also a concern being addressed, as is centers with MDT issues.
Illinois: Billie reported that the chapter just had 3 CACs send in their full accreditation packets. The goal is to have the entire state accredited in the next 3-4 years. The chapter is also looking at a new logo and web design in celebration of their 20th chapter anniversary. In May, the chapter will be participating in a fundraiser, by walking from Springfield to Chicago. The new NCA director, Teresa Huizar and RCAC Project Director Jane Braun will participate in the walk.
Wisconsin: Sara reported that the chapter is working on their 501c3 and hiring a chapter coordinator. In 2007, 2,642 children were served throughout the state. There are 2 new developing CACs; one in Racine and the other in Green County. A state-wide forensic interview peer review program has begun and it’s been going well, as well as medical peer review, which has been especially helpful to medical providers in rural areas.
Minnesota: Tom reported that the chapter is working on strategic planning with their next retreat scheduled for April 18th. Tom also reported that a new director has been hired at the CAC in Duluth, MN. Her name is Susan Ginder. Tom also reported that NDAA did not renew their previously partnered contract with CornerHouse for “Finding Words”. NDAA retains the trademark for “Finding Words”, so CornerHouse has now partnered with NAPSAC to continue essentially the same training, under a new name.
