Advisory Board Meeting Minutes

January 6, 2009

Present: Jane Braun, Kim Martinez, Anne Cherek, Billie Larkin, Libby Nicholson, Paula Condol, Monica Maurer, Ivy Riveland, Jeanne Meyer, Jan Lutz, Jay Wood

Agenda:

Kim reported that she will be beginning her CAC call around to inquire about CAC or training needs in each state.

Jane reported that MRCAC is very busy. Telehealth and streaming NCA n.e.t. education calls will be beginning in February and January, respectively. Jane encouraged the board to get their states involved in the new technologies. Both technologies are free.

Jane reported that NCA has become very strict when it comes to statistics CACs report. Every CAC, including new centers, will lose grant awards for poor or insufficient statistical information submitted with grant applications. Please encourage your CACs to take this new requirement seriously, and to complete the task thoroughly.

Jane reported the US attorney’s have brought in those former NCA employees that were charged with embezzlement. The former employees and their attorneys are considering pleas.

The management team and NCA are currently brainstorming on the next National Chapter Summit. This year, NCA will cover costs instead of the RCACs. The date and location has not been determined yet.

Jane asked that all Chapter Grant requests be in to our office by February 1, 2009.

State Updates:

Illinois: Billie reported that the chapter is gearing up for their Champions for Children Walk, May 14-17, 2009. Last year, they raised $62,000 and had over 200 walkers! 22 out of 38 IL CACs participated last year. They hope to increase donations and participation this year. The Lt. Governor of IL will be present. Billie encouraged the region to participate, and think about doing a collaborative event next year.

Ohio: Libby reported that a new CAC opened. The chapter board has decided to disband and create a chapter that is volunteer- based. Do to these changes, the vision and future of the chapter is still being worked out. The group is meeting this week to discuss this issue again. A prevention grant is currently being issued through ONCAC to the centers across the state.

North Dakota: Paula reported that their chapter website will be live in approximately two weeks. A part-time chapter coordinator position has been created. No one has been hired yet. The chapter is holding training this week, and several trainings in the spring. Lastly, the chapter is still working on becoming a 501c3 and restructuring the Board.

South Dakota: Monica reported that the chapter has hired a new chapter coordinator, Erin. Erin has begun making contact with various CACs.

Missouri: Jay reported the chapter is gearing up for the new legislative session to keep the CAC monies secure, as a new governor has been elected. A facilitator is coming to work with the chapter regarding professional development and short/long term goals, in separate groups.

Indiana: Jan reported that the CACs have been able to apply for Children’s Justice Act money from the state. Most CACs were awarded between $10-15,000. Jan also mentioned that MDTs in Indiana are invited to participate in chapter activities.

Wisconsin: Jeanne reported that the chapter’s movement toward becoming a 501c3, as well as going forward with statewide training, has momentarily been put on hold. Member dynamics have been a primary block in chapter progress. The chapter had their annual meeting in December to discuss what direction and vision the chapter should head in. On a positive note, state funding has been dispersed to all centers.

Nebraska: Ivy reported that new director’s training has taken place and new director directory has been created. Additionally, Ivy has been traveling to do one-on-one meetings with new directors. The chapter is also working on getting MDTs involved in the streamed education calls and other chapter activities.
