Accreditation: a 4th accreditation talk will be presented on NCA n.e.t. in December, by Teresa Huizar. This will call will cover the “how to” related to document writing, MOU creation, etc. We will make DVD copies and send to all chapters.
CALiO: Muriel from NCAC in Huntsville is a great resource for utilizing CALiO. She provides CALiO presentations to chapter meetings at no cost, other than travel and hotel.
National Chapter Summit: October 14th -15th, Denver, CO. We will have a 2 hr block of time to meet as a regional. Jane asked everyone to send her ideas you would like covered. MRCAC will reimburse for one chapter representative to attend (travel and hotel).
THICM: An email went to all CAC directors from NCA in June asking to directors to send Anne their medical provider’s contact information. To date, 72 CACs have responded nationwide. Another email will be sent to CAC directors again mid-July to encourage more response. Only 15 CACs in the Midwest have responded, so please encourage your CACs to send Anne their medical provider information.
MTA/Court Prep: Advanced Medical Training Academy is September 10-12, 2009 in St. Paul, MN and Court Prep Training is September 24-26, 2009 in Minneapolis. There is plenty of space in each training to date, so please encourage your CACs to apply. Limited tuition assistance is also available.
Chapter funding: The extension on current funds run until January 31st. To date, only some chapters have billed for their full grant amount. Jane reminded everyone that there is no guarantee that the extension will last until January, despite the granted timeframe- Jane asked everyone to bill out as much as possible, as soon as possible, to ensure that everyone receives their funding.
Hospital Summit: August 3-4, 2009. Invitations have been sent to selected hospital based CACs. Post- summit, a “white paper” product will be available to all hospital-based CACs and chapters.
State Updates:
Ohio: Pam reported that the chapter has officially revised their articles of incorporation to move to a members- only board of directors. Pam is currently the President for this year. They are working on a position description for a chapter coordinator.
North Dakota: Paula reported that the chapter is revising their by-laws and possibly creating a members-only board of directors. An in-state doctor will be providing medical peer review to state medical providers.
Indiana: Jan reported that the state is suffering financially, like many states. The chapter has a state contract for CAC services and so far all payments are being made. The chapter has its next meeting next week.
Michigan: Sheri reported that the chapter chair position has recently been vacated and the chapter is managing the abrupt change well. The chapter currently has a members- only board of directors and is looking to change to a community -based board, and is working on their accreditation packet.
Wisconsin: Jeanne reported that the chapter would receive their same state legislative funding for all CACs. Jan Lutz came to their last chapter meeting to help facilitate chapter movement. They are currently working on creating a job description for a chapter coordinator.
Minnesota: Susan stated that the chapter is working on creating a website and their 501c3 application. The chapter will post a coordinator position this fall, with the new position beginning in January 2010. Susan also reported that the CAC in northern MN is at risk for closing due to financial constraints at their umbrella agency.
South Dakota: Erin reported that they had their chapter retreat last month and will be holding a board meeting in the coming weeks. The chapter has been brainstorming about accreditation and the future of the chapter.
