Social Work
Social workers are trained professionals who help families problem-solve and find resources to cope with their child’s diagnosis. Social workers help families with:
- Disability services
- Discharge planning
- Financial challenges
- Health insurance
- Services available through private and government agencies
- Workplace issues
Social workers also may provide emotional support and counseling to children and their family members. Services may include:
- Crisis intervention
- Grief and loss counseling and referral
- Mental health assessments for children experiencing a mental health or emotional crisis
- Short-term therapeutic interventions for children, parents, and their families
