Orthopaedic Surgery
Children’s Orthopaedic Services Department provides a full spectrum of care for children with simple and complex orthopaedic needs – from broken arms in the emergency department to newborns with clubfeet to adolescents with ligament tears. Clinics are available on both the Minneapolis and St. Paul campuses.
David Zaleske, MD, Terri Cappello, MD and Jamie Engels, MD have partnered to provide orthopaedic care in a way that supports Children’s mission and vision. That means family centered care, in an environment focused only on children. It also means access to a team of staff with training and experience focused around children and adolescents.

The department has one telephone number for scheduling: (651) 220-5700.
About the orthopaedic services department at Children’s
Fracture care is a fundamental service of Children’s. For many patients, it is arranged on a same day basis. Most patients are seen in clinic, but some children with displaced fractures are managed in the Emergency Room where the Emergency Room staff and the Orthopaedic staff work together to provide comprehensive evaluation and treatment.
Children’s Orthopaedic Services is committed to meeting the acute injury care and trauma needs of patients within Children’s Emergency Rooms. No matter which physician was on call, children are able to get care in Children’s Orthopaedic Clinics in a timely manner, often within the same day.
Dr. Zaleske has focused his practice on the evaluation and management of acute pediatric orthopaedics. He brings his expertise and vast experience to Children’s to treat acute injuries and infections that require urgent care.
In addition to treating fractures and acute problems, Dr. Cappello provides comprehensive care such as the screening, evaluation and treatment of deformities such as clubfeet, flatfeet, cavus feet, leg length discrepancies, hip dysplasia, toe-walking, lower extremity alignment issues and gait abnormalities.
