When a heart condition is present at a child’s birth, genes often play a role in--or are the cause of--that condition. Children’s genetic cardiology clinic is the only one in Minnesota dedicated to children whose cardiac problems may have a genetic element.

Children’s pediatric geneticist and cardiologist, Mary Ella Pierpont, MD, is one of a few physicians in the U.S. who specializes in inherited cardiac conditions in children. As the leader of Children’s genetic cardiology clinic, Dr. Pierpont personally sees each child.

Your child’s initial visit will include an evaluation or set of evaluations customized to your child’s unique needs. Diagnostic services, such as echocardiography, electrocardiogram, Holter monitoring, and genetic diagnostic testing, are available through the clinic. Therapies such as surgery or cardiac catheterization are available as well.
