Nurses Week Activities - May 2009
National Nurses Week takes place May 6 to 12. The entire Children’s community is invited to celebrate the professional practice of all nurses at Children’s.
Activities include:
Awards Presentation
Awards will be presented to nurses who have demonstrated excellence as Leaders, Innovators, Partners in Quality Care, Knowledge Seekers, and Preceptors.
- Wednesday, May 6 at 2 p.m. in the Education Center at Children’s – Minneapolis
- Thursday, May 7 at 2 p.m. in the Garden View Medical Building, room 4057 at Children’s- St. Paul
- Monday, May 11 at 1:30 p.m. in the conference room at Children’s Minnetonka.
Blessing of Hands
The chaplaincy staff will provide a “Blessing of Hands” at the two hospital campuses, a brief ritual, not part of any particular faith tradition but which symbolically recognizes how nurses and all staff participate in the work of healing and blessing others at Children’s. Staff will be at the beginning and end of the celebrations in Minneapolis and St. Paul and they will be at the end of the celebration in Minnetonka to offer “Blessing of Hands”. Chaplains will also be going throughout the hospitals on Wednesday, May 6th and Thursday, May 7th to offer “Blessing of Hands”.

Nurses Appreciation Night with the St. Paul Saints
Join Children’s nurses for Nurses Appreciation Night at the Saints vs. Gary Southshore RailCats game on May 7th at 7:05pm. Tickets for can be ordered from their website www.saintsgroup.com (use ‘nurseweek’ as the password.
Nurses Appreciation Night with the Minnesota Twins
Nurses Appreciation Night is scheduled for Saturday, May 2nd when the Twins take on the Kansas City Royals at 6:10pm. Cost of the event is $20.00 for an upper club ticket (normally $22). There are concession discounts as well. The purchase of 4 tickets and concession coupons saves 30% off the face value (compared to traditional Twins ticket order via phone or web.) Educational Opportunities
The College of Saint Catherine will be hosting an information table on May 6th from 1-4 PM outside of the Education Center. Nurses interested in completing their BSN degree are encouraged to stop by the table for more information.
Cinnabon’s Gift to Nurses for Nurses Week 2009
Once again, Cinnabon® is offering nurses a special treat during Nurses Week (May 6-12): Any nurse who comes to a participating Cinnabon bakery and shows her or his healthcare I.D. badge will get a free Classic Cinnabon roll. Attached is a jpeg of the poster that will hang in the bakeries, celebrating Nurses Week. Please print it out, and be sure your staff is well aware of this delicious offer. And remind them that whenever they smell that wonderful Cinnabon aroma, they should stop for a minute and think about how special they are because they are nurses.
Complementary Waffle Bar at United Hospital!
Children's is co-sponsoring a Complementary Waffle Bar at United Hospital on the morning of May 7th from 0130-0330. The night staff will be able to enjoy waffles, coffee and juice.
