Infant massage classes offered at Children’s

Studies have found that infant massage calm colicky babies and promote parental bonding

Children’s Hospitals and Clinics of Minnesota is offering infant massage classes for parents. Infant massage involves relaxation techniques, the application of massage strokes, and gentle movements. Infant massage may be beneficial for infants with colic, constipation, or poor calming skills.

Any parent or caregiver with a child between the ages of 0-6 months is welcome to attend this 90-minute class. The classes are taught by a certified infant massage instructor.

The gentle, loving touch of parents not only comforts and soothes infants, it can also play an important role in growth and development. It is a special time for babies and their parents to get to know each other.

In addition, infant massage:

  • encourages deeper, longer sleep patterns in babies.
  • teaches the importance of relaxation.
  • promotes attachment.
  • enhances growth and healing.
  • relieves fussiness, colic, and emotional stress.
  • relieves discomfort from teething, congestion, and gas.
