Innovations in Care

At Children’s of Minnesota, medical technology is geared to the needs of children, whether it’s a 2-pound premature infant or a 17-year-old who is undergoing surgery. We adopt the latest technology—proven safe and effective—to advance the care of children.

This gives Children’s an edge that is unavailable at other hospitals, where medical technology is geared to adults. From respirators for preemies to the latest in diagnostic imaging, our technology is tailored to the particular needs of babies, children, and teens.

Advanced technology at Children’s also supports our commitment to being the safest possible hospital for children. In 2007, Children’s will complete the implementation of a fully electronic medical record designed specifically for our pediatric patients. This online system means that a child’s record will follow him or her anywhere within Children’s facilities, a capability that is not possible with paper records. In addition, computerization eliminates errors in transcribing handwritten orders and builds in checks and balances to reduce mistakes in areas such as ordering medications.
