The case mix index measures the severity of illness for patients treated at a hospital. Children's case mix index is higher than other pediatric hospitals, indicating that Children's patients are generally sicker. This may be due to Children's large proportion of intensive care patients.
This measure uses data from the Pediatric Health Information System (PHIS). PHIS is a comprehensive comparative pediatric database of 42 children's hospitals that evaluates clinical and financial details of more than six million patient cases.
This measure is updated quarterly.
