Severe intraventricular hemorrhage

Bleeding within the center of the brain

2007

Severe Intraventricular Hemorrhage is bleeding within central portions of the brain known as the ventricles. It can lead to abnormal collections of spinal fluid within the brain, known as hydrocephalus. There are more patients with Severe Intraventricular Hemorrhage in the lower birth weight categories. Children's outcomes are similar to the VON average in all birth weight categories except one.

This measure uses data from Vermont Oxford Network (VON). VON is a comprehensive comparative database of 632 hospitals that evaluates care and outcomes of 49,000 high-risk (birth weight < 1500 grams) neonates.

This measure is updated annually.
