Survival without Major Complications

2007

There are a number of major medical complications associated with prematurity. These are referred to as morbidity. In addition to survival, the absence of serious complications or morbidity is an important outcome measure. Survival rates without morbidity increase as birth weights increase. One or both of Children's hospitals' outcomes exceeds or matches the VON average in each birth weight category.

This measure uses data from Vermont Oxford Network (VON). VON is a comprehensive comparative database of 632 hospitals that evaluates care and outcomes of 49,000 high-risk (birth weight < 1500 grams) neonates.

This measure is updated annually.
