Volunteers Are Service Stars: Kenia Kaczor

Hearing kind words about volunteers from Children’s staff always brings smiles to our faces!  This past week, we received the following e-mail from Lisa Pham in Children’s Sibling Play Area, acknowledging the great work of volunteer Kenia Kaczor:

“I just want to recognize a volunteer, Kenia Kaczor, for her great can-do attitude in the Sibling Play Area!  It’s always a joy to have her come into SPA and adapt to whatever is needed of her.  I rarely have to redirect her or what she is doing in SPA; she just knows what is expected of her.  She is fantastic with kids of all age ranges and disabilities.  Especially today, she was not hesitant to interact with a child who was autistic and blind.  She guided and familiarized him with the toys that interested him.  I just wanted to make sure you all know what a great job she does in SPA.  We appreciate what Volunteer Services has to offer!”

THANK YOU, Kenia, for your amazing work in the Sibling Play Area!  We’re so happy to have you on our volunteer team!

Mounds Park Students Donate Blankets!

A huge thank-you to the students and families at Mounds Park Academy, who donated beautiful tie blankets yesterday to Children’s Hospital-St. Paul! Families worked together on the project during an organized evening event at the school, tying the sides of large squares of fleece material to create warm and colorful blankets. The fleece blankets are the perfect size for older children and teens here at Children’s Hospital!

Thank you for your hard work and kind donation!

Veteran Volunteer Recognition

Did you know that nearly 100 volunteers have served Children’s Hospital for 3 years or longer?!

To celebrate the incredible work and ongoing commitment of our “veteran” volunteers, a recognition luncheon was held on Saturday, October 29th. Volunteers, guests, pet therapy dogs, and Volunteer Services staff gathered at the Town and Country Club in St. Paul for lunch, musical entertainment, and a brief program.

Children’s Hospital CEO Alan Goldbloom provided updates on new developments and projects at Children’s. A special highlight from Saturday’s program was hearing from a family about their patient experience at Children’s Hospital, including the impact that volunteers had on this experience.

Volunteers were presented with pins and certificates in honor of the service, time and talent they have shared with Children’s over the years.

Exactly how much time have these Veteran Volunteers shared with Children’s?

10-15 years: 13 volunteers

15-20 years: 8 volunteers

20-25 years: 3 volunteers

25-30 years: 2 volunteers

30+ years: 1 volunteer
