Star Studio Volunteer Opportunities Available For Summer!

Have a passion for live theatre, music, and/or television?  Ever dreamed of having your own star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame?  Take the first step toward using these passions to better the lives of Children’s patients and families by volunteering with the Star Studio this summer!

The Star Studio is Children’s very own in-house TV channel.  Offering creative programming for children of all ages, Star Studio shows are geared specifically to young patients and their families as an alternative to mainstream commercial broadcasting.  Shows are broadcast from a studio space on the first floor of the hospital into patient rooms; patients are then able to call in from their rooms to play games, request songs, or simply say “hello!”

This summer, we are seeking volunteers to assist with two different shows:  BINGO and the Kids’ Clubhouse (a variety show consisting of games, stories, and music).  BINGO show volunteers will assist in passing out BINGO cards on the inpatient units, logging patient calls/BINGO numbers, and distributing prizes to winners after the show.   Kids’ Clubhouse volunteers will assist with similar duties:  publicizing the show, assisting with cameras and phone calls during the broadcast, and prize distribution.

Shifts available for these shows are:

Mondays, 12:30-3:00 pm (BINGO)

Tuesdays, 10:00 am-12:30 pm (Kids’ Clubhouse)

Wednesdays, 10:00 am-12:30 pm (Kids’ Clubhouse)

Wednesdays, 12:30-3:00 pm (BINGO)

Thursdays, 10:00 am-12:30 pm (Kids’ Clubhouse)

Please contact Jenna at (612) 813-6148 (or [email protected]) if you are interested in one of these exciting opportunities!

Spring Break: Extra Shifts Available!

Stumped on how to fill your days if you’re sticking around the Cities for spring break?  During the week of March 14-18, extra volunteer shifts are available on the Minneapolis and St. Paul campuses.  Please contact Lisa ([email protected]) for St. Paul, or Jenna ([email protected]) for Minneapolis!

Surgery Family Waiting Room: Sub Positions Available!

Have a busy schedule?  Want to volunteer, but can’t commit to coming in every week?  Consider becoming a sub in our Surgery Family Waiting Room on the Minneapolis campus!

Surgery Family Waiting Room volunteers are a critical link in the chain of communication between Surgical Services staff and families while their children are in surgery.  Volunteers provide a welcoming environment in the waiting area, communicate waiting area guidelines, and track families during their waiting period.  Volunteers maintain professional and confidential communication with pre-op, operating room, recovery, and post-op staff to keep families updated during their child’s surgery. Volunteers also reconnect families with children upon their departure from the post-anesthesia care unit.  FWR subs train during a designated shift and provide coverage when scheduled volunteers are unavailable.

Please contact Jenna at (612) 813-6148 if interested in making a difference in families’ surgery experiences!
