New DEXA scanner at Children'sChildren’s radiology department now accepts direct referrals for its new DEXA scanner, the latest addition to its extensive radiology technology tailored to fit the needs of children. In addition to being the most accurate method used to measure bone density, the DEXA scanner also employs the lowest amount of radiation for pediatric bone scans.
Formally called a Dual Energy X-ray Absorptiometry scanner, the DEXA scanner is:
three to five times more efficient than other systems when it comes to radiation dosage.
the first system designed to look beyond bone mineral density.
able to detect subtle bone changes in a variety of clinical applications.
capable of delivering rapid scans and near radiographic imaging.
DEXA scanner referrals available
Children’s performs more than 100,000 radiology procedures annually on medical equipment designed to meet the unique needs of children. The DEXA scanner will be operated by American Registry of Radiologic Technologists-certified technologists and all scans will be read by a Children's pediatric radiologist with specialized DEXA-scanner training. Sedation capabilities are offered as part of Children’s coordinated, pediatric-focused care — all in one location.
