Thank God for Kids

Giving to Children's

Thank you to everyone who helped make the 17th annual Thank God for Kids gala a success, with 900 guests in attendance and raising $1.1 million for the Cancer Kids Fund. The Cancer Kids Fund helps children, and their families, who are treated for cancer, sickle cell anemia and other blood disorders at Children’s Hospitals and Clinics of Minnesota.

A portion of the money raised from this year’s event will fund the construction of 10 private patient-family rooms on the expanded Minneapolis and St. Paul campuses. The new patient rooms have been designed not only with the input of children who have received treatment there, but also their families. These rooms have also been designed to deliver state of the art medical care, further improving the high quality of care delivered by Children’s.

We would also like to give a special thank you to our presenting sponsor Dedicated Logistics, our hosts Frank Vascellaro and Belinda Jensen, event co-chairs Erin Lisle and Kelly Brenna, the Thank God for Kids committee, and our patient host Amanda. If you would like to learn more about the Cancer Kids Fund or Children's of Minnesota, please call or e-mail Jennifer Peterson of Children's Foundation at (651) 855-2826.

The new construction of private patient-family rooms at Children's will allow children and their families to have a more positive experience, and as a result, a better outcome. The new rooms will also provide families enhanced capacity to comfortably stay with their child for longer periods of time. Families share their stories about the Cancer Kids Fund

The Sunder family
The first couple of months of Natalie's treatment were really hard. Besides all the chemotherapy treatments, Natalie also developed Pancretitus, a rare side effect from one of the drugs she was taking. During all of this turmoil, and Natalie being a patient at Children's, we heard about this wonderful program.

The Brown family
Without all of the gracious care and concern we encountered, we truly do not know how we would have made it through such a difficult ordeal. Despite the fact that you haven’t had too many cancer patients with the diagnosis of autism like Joshua, all of his caregivers were simply fantastic! The support that Joshua and our family received through the Cancer Kids Fund was truly amazing and overwhelming.

The Cancer Kids Fund provides support, care, and comfort to children and families coping with cancer or blood disorders at Children’s Hospitals and Clinics of Minnesota. We help comfort sick kids, lessen fears and build new memories.
