Children's - St. Paul Day Surgery Center (DSC)

The Day Surgery Center at Children’s – St. Paul is a shared service between United Hospital and Children’s Hospitals and Clinics of Minnesota. The DSC provides ambulatory surgical services to Children’s patients who are 5 months old to 21 years of age. There are three different nursing units in the DSC: Pre-op/ Phase 2, PACU, and Surgery. All DSC employees are cross-trained to care for pediatric and adult patients. Being a shared service is complex and challenging, but also rewarding as staff provides excellent care to all age groups of patients.

The DSC cares for an average of 3,400 Children’s cases per year. Our most common surgery cases for our Children’s patients are:

  • Tonsillectomies and adenoidectomies
  • Myringotomies
  • Dental surgery
  • Hernia surgery
  • Urology surgery
