When I first found out I was pregnant, I thought there was a mistake. I had been told I would never have children. When I was 4 months along I started having pains and went to the hospital thinking it was my appendix; well I was in labor.

My son was born at 37 weeks after being on bed rest for 3 1/2 months. After my son was born he was diagnosed with acid reflux, we had a swallow study in the Radiology department at Children's. A few months later, my son had hernia surgery, and spent the night. The nurses took great care of us. My son was diagnosed with torticollis when he was only a few months old; this required weekly physical therapy. Every week for a year, we met with our therapist, Cheryl, who was wonderful and experienced.

About General Surgery at Children’s
The general surgery team at Children's provides next-generation care to newborns, infants, children, and adolescents from throughout the upper Midwest. Our goal is to provide your child with the best possible surgery experience.
General surgery, despite its name, is a surgical specialty. General surgeons undergo a five-year residency, when they are trained in diagnostic and surgical techniques for a broad spectrum of surgical conditions. Surgeons at Children's also undergo up to two years of subspecialty training in pediatric surgery.
Children's pediatric general surgery team provides a range of surgical care, from newborn, tumor, gastrointestinal, and thoracic surgeries, to surgeries that facilitate further care (such as cannulation to initiate ECMO and gastrostomy to implant a tube in the stomach), to surgeries that are familiar to many parents (such as hernia repairs and appendectomies.)
