Children’s - St. Paul 7940 Pediatric Epilepsy Unit
Station 7940 Pediatric Epilepsy is a 10-bed unit specializing in the care of children and their families affected by seizures and epilepsy. This unit is housed on the 7th floor of United Hospital and is staffed by Children’s nurses. As the country’s largest pediatric epilepsy unit, Children's Hospitals and Clinics of Minnesota, in partnership with Minnesota Epilepsy Group, P.A. offers a wide range of services.
Services
During their stay, most patients require diagnostic assessments, including:
- Continuous video electroencephalography (EEG)
- Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI)
- Medication and laboratory testing
- Physical, occupational, and speech therapies

Children’s – Minneapolis Special Care Nursery
The Special Care Nursery is a 33-bed level II nursery caring for premature infants at 30–36 weeks gestation.
The unit is housed on the 7th Floor of Abbott Northwestern Hospital and staffed by nurses at Children’s. Close proximity to the postpartum units allows mothers to be located near their newborn infants.
The Special Care Nursery was designed by a group of nurses to accommodate the privacy needs for our patients and their families, while allowing for a quiet, nurturing environment.
Children's - St. Paul Neonatal Intensive Care Unit
The Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at Childen's St. Paul is a 57-bed unit with 49 private rooms in which parents may stay with their child in a family-centered, welcoming environment. We are a unique unit that cares for both Level II and Level III neonates. The unit is equipped and staffed to monitor, diagnose and treat high-risk and critically ill newborns, including nitric oxide therapy, high-frequency ventilation and surgery. The unit offers up-to-date diagnostic testing, developmental assessment and therapy, nutritional and feeding consultation with a full-time nutritionist and lactation specialists on staff. Children's - Minneapolis Neonatal Intensive Care Unit
The Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at Children's - Minneapolis is a 38-bed Level III unit equipped and staffed to monitor, diagnose and treat all disorders affecting high-risk and critically ill newborns, including ECMO, nitric oxide therapy, high-frequency ventilation, head cooling and surgery. The unit offers up-to-date diagnostic testing, developmental assessment and therapy, nutritional and feeding consultation with full-time nutritionists, occupational therapists and lactation specialists on staff. Children's - Minneapolis Pediatric Intensive Care Unit
The PICU at Children’s – Minneapolis is a 20-bed unit for patients who require close observation and specialized nursing and medical care. This includes infants, children and young adults who have life-threatening illnesses or whose level of decompensation requires PICU-specific therapy or monitoring.
