Minneapolis, Minn. – (May 28, 2013) – Children's Hospitals and Clinics of Minnesota today announced the promotion of Dave Overman to president and chief operating officer. Overman adds president to his title after serving in the role of chief operating officer since 2008. Prior president Alan L. Goldbloom, MD, will continue to serve as Children's chief executive officer with a focus on long-term strategy, philanthropy, government relations and board relationships.
Overman has been with Children's for eight years. He joined the organization as chief information officer in 2005 and led the installation and implementation of Children's full electronic medical records system. After his rise to chief operating officer three years later, Overman was instrumental in driving Children's long-range business strategy, which included the rebuilding of Children's Minneapolis and St. Paul campuses. The $300 million expansion program will be completed later this year, resulting in state-of-the-art facilities and all private patient rooms on both sides of the river.
In addition, Overman has pushed equally hard to ensure the consistent delivery of high quality, safe care to patients and families. For example, under Overman's leadership, Children's recently launched a first-of-its-kind medication management system which is significantly reducing medication errors by wirelessly transmitting data between patients' infusion pumps, wristbands and electronic medical records. Children's is the first pediatric hospital in the country to implement this new technology.
A tireless advocate for advancing the standards of pediatric care across the state, Overman has also fostered innovative partnerships with Allina Health, HealthPartners, St. Cloud Hospital and several others to evolve care delivery, and whenever possible, keep a child's care close to home. His most significant accomplishment came earlier this year when The Mother Baby Center opened its doors at Children's – Minneapolis. The Center brings together the perinatal and obstetrical excellence of Abbott Northwestern Hospital with the neonatal expertise of Children's under one roof. The Mother Baby Center is one of only a few like centers in the country and it has already seen volume growth well beyond early projections.
"Dave is an incredibly effective leader with an innate ability to rally teams and align their work to Children's business strategy and our organizational mission to deliver the best pediatric care possible," said Alan L. Goldbloom, MD, chief executive officer of Children's Hospitals and Clinics of Minnesota. "The launch of The Mother Baby Center is a perfect example of his leadership. The idea of building the Center was talked about for more than 20 years, but Dave made it a thriving reality."
Prior to joining Children's, Overman served as vice president of information systems at Express Scripts, a national company that manages pharmacy benefits. During his 10 years at Express Scripts, he led an information technology staff of more than 800 employees. Overman also currently serves as the chair of the board of Ronald McDonald House Charities.
