The Center for Bleeding and Clotting Disorders

We are experts at treating bleeding and clotting disorders.

The Center for Bleeding and Clotting Disorders (CBCD) at Children’s Minnesota provides expert care for babies, kids and teens with bleeding and thrombotic (clotting) disorders. It’s the only center in the region focused just on children and is part of a national network of Hemophilia Treatment Centers (HTCs).

At CBCD, your child will be cared for by a team of pediatric hematology experts who work together to provide complete, all-around care. This holistic team approach helps kids stay healthier — missing fewer days of school and needing fewer emergency room visits — so they can focus on just being kids. The center also partners with local and national groups to support families through every step of their blood disorder journey.

Why choose CBCD at Children’s Minnesota?

  • Statewide leader: The CBCD is part of the cancer and blood disorders program, which is the largest program in the state and treats more than 1,000 children with blood disorders each year.
  • Unique expertise: Home to the only teen hematology and gynecology program in Minnesota.
  • Proven outcomes: CDC study shows the rate of hospital stays for bleeding-related events among patients seen in federally recognized HTCs was 40 percent lower than the rates of patients seen in other care facilities.
  • Accessible expertise: At Children’s Minnesota, we provide second opinions on your blood disorder diagnosis. If you or your child’s doctor would like us to review your child’s case, you may arrange to have health records and test results for your child sent to us. The child does not need to live in the area or be seen in our clinic.
