Physical Therapy and Occupational Therapy for Cancer and Blood Disorders Patients
At Children’s, our physical therapists on the cancer and blood disorders team work full time with children and teens coping with cancer and blood disorders. Physical therapy ensures that, as much as possible, your child is able to:
- Participate in regular daily activities.
- Develop physical skills appropriate to age.
- Be as independent as possible.
- Minimize the impact of chemotherapy side effects on physical activity
Within the Cancer and Blood Disorders Clinic, physical therapists work with patients in a dedicated physical therapy gym used for evaluations as well as treatment sessions. The gym has specialized equipment for assessing a child’s walk and determining the impact of chemotherapy on walking.
Physical therapists work with children on an inpatient and outpatient basis.
