Diagnostic Care in the Cardiovascular Program
The state-of-the-art imaging available at Children's can help diagnose your child's condition and define the best possible course of treatment. At Children's, you'll find:
A specialty in pediatric cardiac imaging.
Imaging expert and pediatric cardiologist, Kelly Gleason Han, MD, is one of a handful of cardiologists in the U.S. with a specialty in cardiac imaging, which involved a two-year, advanced imaging fellowship at Boston Children's Hospital/Harvard Medical School.
Children's radiologists work in concert with cardiologists and cardiothoracic surgeons to provide procedures. The high level of team training and experience means that children who receive MRIs and CT scans at Children's typically receive lower doses of radiation.
Cardiac catheterization procedures.
In some cases, it may be possible to diagnose and treat your child at the same time through procedures performed in Children's pediatric cardiac catheterization lab, the only one of its kind in the upper Midwest.
A special focus on preventing discomfort.
Team members at Children's focus proactively on preventing the discomfort or anxiety that can occur with some tests. This may involve sedation (for example, through Children's award-winning nitrous oxide program, the use of imagery and pain control techniques taught by child life specialists, or other services provided through the integrative medicine department.

- Arrythmia monitoring
- Cardiac catheterization
- Electrocardiography (EKG)
