Unit Profiles

The neonatal services program at Children's provides Level II, III, and step-down care for neonates and infants up to one year of age, including:

  • The NICUs at Children's – Minneapolis (44-bed nearly all private room level III unit) and Children's – St. Paul (62-bed private room level II and level III NICU) are equipped and staffed to diagnose and treat all disorders affecting critically ill newborns, including ECMO, nitric oxide therapy, high-frequency ventilation, and surgery.
  • The Infant Care Center at Children's – Minneapolis (32-bed step-down unit) specializes in the care of fragile, longer-term neonates and infants up to one year of age who require a higher level of observation and care.
  • The Special Care Nursery at Children's – Minneapolis (a 33-bed level II neonatal unit shared with Abbott Northwestern Hospital).
