Say hello to the lung experts

pulmonary 2

The pulmonary and respiratory team at Children’s Hospitals and Clinics of Minnesota is nationally recognized. We specialize in diagnosing, treating and managing any problem that affects a child’s breathing. The 32 physicians from Children’s and Children's Respiratory & Critical Care Specialists have received years of special training in lung and respiratory care.

A few different types of professionals make up the expert team:

  • Pediatric pulmonologists care for lung and respiratory problems in children. The 10 pediatric pulmonologists from Children's Respiratory & Critical Care Specialists have completed a three-year pediatric residency followed by a three-year pulmonology fellowship.
  • Critical care physicians work in the critical care units at Children’s – Minneapolis and Children’s – St. Paul. Because 70 percent of critically ill children have a primary pulmonary cause for their illness, our critical care doctors work closely with our pulmonary doctors.
  • Pulmonary nurse practitioners have special training in pediatric pulmonology. They see patients in six clinics across the state, in Children’s – Minneapolis and Children’s – St. Paul for consultations, and conduct home consultations.

A strong team requires strong leadership.

The team works closely with experienced nurses, respiratory therapists, social workers, dietitians and child life specialists to make sure kids receive all the support they need to feel better. And we can’t forget to mention the 20-person office staff, which makes sure your visit goes smoothly.
