Conditions That May Require Ophthalmology Surgery

Eye surgery may be an option when medicines don't work or when eye conditions are more serious. Your child's doctor may recommend surgery, laser surgery, or other eye procedures for a variety of conditions. Some of the most common conditions treated at Children's are:

  • Blocked tear ducts
  • Corneal and external disease
  • Droopy eyelids
  • Eye tumors (retinoblastoma)
  • Glaucoma
  • Masses on the eyelids or surface of the eye
  • Orbital fractures
  • Retinal problems and infections
  • Retinopathy of prematurity
  • Strabismus (also known as crossed eyes or wandering eye)
  • Weak eye muscles
