Bar Code Scanning

Children’s is implementing bar code scanning to support medication administration at the bedside. Critical care areas will also advance device integration with vents and pumps. The pilot began in the Minneapolis PICU on March 20, 2012, with a rolling time line for other units based on the pilot’s success.

When will bar code scanning begin in my unit?

• The pilot is a testing period to ensure that the technology functions appropriately.
• Once we have the assurance we need, we will begin to roll out to other areas, with goal of having all areas up and running by the end of the year.  We will communicate a time line for the roll out as we gauge the success of the pilot program.
