Private patient rooms within The Mother Baby Center

Each year, Star Gala highlights a specific funding focus the night of the event. This year’s fund-a-need supports private patient rooms within The Mother Baby Center. From labor and delivery rooms to the special care nursery and post-partum rooms, all moms, babies and families will receive the highest level of care and technology in the privacy of their own room.

From the moment a woman learns she’s expecting, an unbreakable bond forms between a mom and her baby. While all start with the goal of 40 weeks to conception, many babies have other plans – whether arriving a few weeks early or months ahead of time. Some of these new arrivals just need a little more time to mature in a safe, quiet environment. Others have advanced health needs that require immediate and ongoing medical care.

More than 400 times each year, the journey for moms delivering at Abbott Northwestern Hospital begins with their baby being whisked away through an underground tunnel to Children’s neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) – more than two blocks away – to receive the highest level of neonatal care available in the region.

This all changed on Feb. 4, 2013, when Children’s and Abbott Northwestern opened The Mother Baby Center – one of only a few centers of its kind in the country. The center combines the best of the best fetal, maternal, newborn and pediatric specialists under one roof. The result – innovative, integrated care, extraordinary outcomes and an exceptional experience designed around keeping moms and babies together no matter their circumstance.

Though The Mother Baby Center is open, our work is not done. With your support, we need to raise $500,000 to complete the funding of private patient rooms. No other place in the state has made the commitment we have to private patient rooms designed with the baby in mind – from traditional post-partum to the level II special care nursery to the level III NICU. • Enhanced infection control is made possible when each patient has a private room – critically important for our most fragile babies.
• Parent education in the privacy of their own room, which teaches parents about daily medical care for their baby upon their return home.
