About the Cancer Kids Fund

The Cancer Kids Fund provides support, care and comfort to children and families coping with cancer or blood disorders at Children's Hospitals and Clinics of Minnesota. We help comfort sick kids, lessen fears and build new memories.

• More than 1,400 children are being treated annually for cancer and blood disorders at Children's.
• The Cancer Kids Fund supports the Integrative Medicine approach at Children's, which blends conventional and complementary therapies resulting in a personalized treatment plan for each child and family.
• The Cancer Kids Fund supports patient families by providing family members with overnight accommodations, a family lounge, shower facilities, meals, debit cards, parking assistance, parent-to-parent programs, and other financial assistance.
• The Cancer Kids Fund supports the Pain and Palliative Care program at Children's, the largest such program in the Western world, which provides care for children with pain and life limiting or terminal conditions in their homes.
• The Cancer Kids Fund supports the Infusion Center at Children's by providing a comfortable setting for children to receive chemotherapy and other infusion treatments.
• The Cancer Kids Fund supports research regarding the effects of cancer treatment on other health disorders and the research database used by staff to document all research related activities.
• The Cancer Kids Fund supports entertainment for the children and their families, including holiday parties, videos, and DVDs. Zoomobile visits, movie passes, Science Museum visits and much more.
• The Cancer Kids Fund supports education for children, families, and nursing staff, including educational materials, lectures and conferences.
• The Cancer Kids Fund began in 1987 as a simple coin jar. Donors would toss in pocket change to help patient families pay for parking when they were at Children's Hospitals.

In 20 years, the Thank God for Kids gala has raised over $10.8 million for the Cancer Kids Fund.
