Ashley’s Story
By John
Wyoming, MN

In November 1983 my daughter Ashley was born at Children’s Hospital in St. Paul. She was 1 lb 10 oz when born. She was given 20% chance to live we were told. She spent 3 months in an incubator in the I.C.U. We were very young parents; I was 20, her mother was 18.

We were married just 1 month before, and Ashley was only 26 weeks along before she decided to enter the world prematurely.

We spent a lot of days during those 3 months there with her, and we are so very grateful for the love and care that was given to her by the Doctors and Nurses there. The nurses especially were so very kind and loving to our little girl.

When we came there for Christmas day, we were treated like Family by the nurses that day, I will never forget. We brought Ashley home on February 19th, over 3 months later, and she was so small but yet we knew she was going to make it because of the care she was given by the staff at the Hospital.

We thank everyone there for all they did to give our little girl a fighting chance to live.

Ashley is now a grown woman, married to a wonderful young man and she has her own child now, just 6 months old, his name is Elijah, and I am so proud of my daughter. There is not a day that go by that I don’t think of the wonderful people at Children’s that made all this possible and I’m so thankful for the chance to finally share this story with the people at that great Hospital.
