Bowen's Story
By James
Rockford, MN
Our son, Bowen, was born 3 months premature weighing 2lbs. 9oz. at the Minneapolis Children's hospital. He spent 10 weeks in the hospital running a gamut of issues, brain bleeding, being intubated twice and dealing with fluid around the lungs, to name a few.
These were very trying times for my wife and I as each new day brought on another struggle for our son.
That was 5 years ago. Today our son is doing beyond what anyone was expecting, including his doctors. He has been to many follow up visits that track premature births and they are considering him as gifted. When he turned 4 he was beginning to read, do simple math, count to 100 and all this before he is considered ready for preschool. Now that he is five he is way ahead of any of his peers in his preschool class and many in Kindergarten.
All of this would not have been possible if not for the research, dedication and support from people who did not even know my son. If not for all the hard work of others our situation may have been different.
I would like to say thanks to everyone at Children's and to all the research and time of others who changed a very scary time into a very happy life.
